no text box available in iOS 26

After sending a text and getting a reply, the text box for me to respond is not available.

My work around is to touch the recipient’s Avatar at the top, and the arrow back to the text discussion.

Is there a fix for this issue?

I am on the latest version of iOS 26 with an iPhone 16 Pro
