Messages not working on Mac since upgrading to macOS Tahoe Version 26.0.1

The latest software update Tahoe 26.1 seems to remedied the issue. Messages is now functioning appropriately!

I have experienced the same issue and have tried a number of things that typically fix this kind of problem but have failed to work in this instance. Also, I am currently unable to send regular "green" text messages using my laptop, although I am able to do this on my iPhone. Either Apple has a behind-the-scenes problem or there's a bug in the 26.0.1 update. If the former is the case, I would guess/hope it will be fixed in the next day or two. If the latter is the case, we can expect a 26.0.2 update...sometime.

I have this same issue. I can enter a message and the recipients, but there is no way to actually send the message. This seems to be something that happened as a result of the upgrade to Tahoe 26.0.1

Have not seen a resolution posted yet.

UPDATE: Minutes after I posted my previous comment Messages started to work normally again. Then it broke again. Now it seems to be working again. Who knows what the next day, or the next hour, or the next minute will bring?

I have had the same problem, except that the Messages app is just frozen on my Mac. The only thing I can do with it is Force Quit. I get notifications of messages, but I can't read them or send them. The Messages app either doesn't appear or doesn't respond when opened. I'm on a MacBook Pro M3.

As of today, still not syncing with my iPhone or other devices, and still failing on my Mac (intermittently), especially when texting an Android user with whom I've texted without issue prior to Tahoe 26.x

This is so incredibly frustrating. All the mentioned issues: messages showing up on one device but not the other, messages not sent or received, seeing a notification about a message but can't see or read it. It seems that i message for the last year has just contined to get worse and worse. Is anyone at Apple looking into this and trying to fix?

I'm running Tahoe 26.1 on my Macbook M-1 Pro and still having this issue with Messages not working. In the past, I could quit messages, restart it and it would work until the next failure. Rinse and repeat to get it going again. Now that I'm on 26.1, restarting doesn't get me running any longer. I have to revert to my iPhone to text. I use Apple products because they integrated with each other seamlessly. That no longer appears to be the case. IMHO, Apple quality and reliability has degraded substantially over the years.

After upgrade to Tahoe 26.2, the Messages app is still not working properly. Messages was failing to start up properly in Tahoe 26.1. Mac OS would show that it was running, but no window for the app would ever open. Rebooting, disconnecting peripherals, rebooting in safe mode, running diagnostics — nothing helped. And nothing is helping since the OS upgrade. If Apple runs true to form, it will not acknowledge any issue of any kind.

Tahoe 26.1 didn't fix diddly in my case. Messages would still freeze intermittently and I would have to quit the program and restart. Messages would then work correctly for perhaps the next 24 to 48 hours before it would go walking-in-the-weeds again. I've since updated to Tahoe 26.2. We'll see. . . .

Me too!! Unable to send attachments-docs or photo after update. And at times unable to send a simple message. System freezes!

Me too! Messages repeatedly not syncing to devices! I am forced to use “Sync Now” to update. Now, message notifications are erratic.

For me, sync does not sync all messages on all devices. Some are still missing from each.

Not for me. I'm on 26.1 and it still doesn't function correctly.
