Center button on my USB-C Apple EarPods isn't working

Purchased a pair of Apple Earpods USB-C. The sound and volume buttons work fine. The center button to pause, skip tracks does not. It depresses, but does engage with Apple Music. Also sometime with the USB-C, when the phones sleeps, I have to unplug and plug back in for audio to play.

Any help would be appreciated.
