What are the best Photo Scanners with USB-C Connection for Mac?

I have bought an EPSOM V39 II Scanner which isn't working with my iMAC!

I can use the cable in an ACER laptop which has a direct USB A port and the scanner starts immediately.

It does nothing when I connect it to the USB C to USB A adaptor connected to my iMAC which is a 2021 model running on Sonoma 14.6.1

This is so frustrating and has become a huge headache.

Can any recommend a good photo flatbed scanner that is compatible with above?

There is no issue with downloading the software it seems to be the cable not connecting with the adaptor on the Mac.

Has anyone had the same experience?

iMac 24″, macOS 14.6

Epson – Epson Perfection V39 II Color Photo and Document Flatbed Scanner

According to Epson's description, this scanner does not have its own power supply. It is "USB powered."

They don't say how much power it wants to consume, but they say that it has a "Hi-Speed USB 2.0" interface. If I am not mistaken, USB 2 host ports only have to supply 2.5 watts of 5V power (500 mA @ 5V). That doesn't seem like very much to drive a device that has to power a bright light and a motor.

Suggestions

  • If you are using a third-party USB-C to USB-A adapter, try a different adapter, such as the Apple one.
  • If you are connecting this scanner to a hub or dock, make sure that that hub or dock has its own power supply.
  • If you have a powered hub or dock on hand, you could try connecting the scanner to it.
  • Get another scanner that is not bus-powered; one that gets power from the wall.
