Can I exchange an Apple Pencil 2nd generation for a 1st generation without a receipt?

I was gifted a second generation Apple pen perfect condition, but I have the 10th generation iPad so it’s not compatible since it was gifted. I don’t have a receipt, but I do have the box. Am I able to swap it out for the first generation or am I just stuck with it

Apple will exchange an unwanted and undamaged item, purchased directly from Apple, within 14-days of purchase - but will require the original receipt. If purchased from another retailer, you will need to explore their own return/exchange policy.

If you received the Pencil as a gift, consider approaching the gift-giver and request the receipt - explaining that the Pencil is in compatible with your iPad. No doubt the gift-giver would rather that you are pro-active in obtaining the receipt to replace the Pencil - rather than risk later discovery that the gift was of no use to you.
