Power beats 2 Heart Rate not working

I cannot get a Heart Rate reading from my power beat pros 2. I’ve followed all the Apple Support material online to ensure in-ear heart rate monitoring is toggled on and that all my apps have permission to read and write from Apple Health.

2 steps I cannot follow:

I cannot start a workout from the Apple Fitness app - I have no “workout” tab. Only Summary, Fitness+, and Sharing. I can only start a workout from a third party app like Strava. For which I don’t get any heart rate metrics.

And in Apple Health, under Heart Rate/Data Sources and Access, I don’t see my Power Beats Pros anywhere in there.

Any ideas? There is no way for me to tell if it’s not connected to my phone/account or if the HR sensor simply doesn’t work.
