Constant loud volume on USB type-c earpods with iPhone 16 Pro

I recently got the USB type-c wired earpods from apple. it was working very well for about a month. then about 2 weeks ago, it began this weird thing where i cannot change the volume of media from apple music. it is at a constant loud volume.

But when i take the earpods off, i can control the volume of the phone’s speakers as normal. I can also control volume of other wireless headphones.

on ios 26.

What is the fix here please?
