Battery Drain on iOS 26 and iOS 26.0.1.

Good morning everyone,

I would like to report a VERY SERIOUS problem with the battery and performance.

I have a NEW iPhone 15 with 100% battery capacity and only 22 cycles (which I did myself; when it arrived, it was at 0).

However, after updating to iOS 26 (and even with iOS 26.0.1, the situation remains the same), I continue to have VERY SERIOUS problems with the battery life of my NEW phone.

Today, I was busy all day and did not use my phone from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., yet it still dropped from 90% to 45% WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING. No apps were open, the “Refresh apps in background” option was not enabled, the screen was set to turn off automatically after 30 seconds, and automatic brightness was enabled. So it's definitely not the phone's fault because it's BRAND NEW with a 100% ORIGINAL battery, nor is it the settings because it was in PERMANENT POWER SAVING mode. So the fault lies solely with iOS. There are no excuses.

I am writing this message to urge Apple to resolve this issue as soon as possible because, from what I have read on X, I am not the only one.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thank you very much and have a good day.

Meta needs to calm down, it's not possible that Instagram consumes 38% of my battery for a simple 2 hours. Whatsapp has 22% of use but anyway how does it in the background to have gone 1 hour and passes if I have never made a call or something like that

You are absolutely correct and even Google has called out Meta for battery draining on their devices. Meta has the worst track record for introducing bugs in their apps, and attempts to resolve it with another update that introduces a different bug. For example, Instagram was just updated 4 days ago with 12 updates in just the last month. It is clear very little in-house testing is being done and the users are really the bug testers.

The apps are free for you to download and use, but Meta is making billions off the data they are able to gather on you and that is also done on your device that is using the battery. They do this by building a Social Graph for everything you do on their platform, including information from others liked or commented on your post and those that you did to others. Processing is being done in the background on your device and any notification you receive will launch the app in the background to process the payload. That is simply their business model and it is no surprise that Meta owns WhatsApp as well.

It is no surprise that without those apps, you have exceptional battery life. Once you are able to identify the problem, it is up to you how you want to proceed. If you are unhappy with the Meta apps, contact them and express your disproval and if they are unwilling to offer any solution you find acceptable, then quit using those apps. It really is your choice what apps you have installed on your phone and the Developer of the app is responsible for how that app performs.

I've tried everything, resetting network settings, hard resetting by pressing Volume Up + Volume Down and holding the power button. I strongly believe it's a software optimisation issue.

It certainly is possible. We can't rule out app usage of background processes or indexing is still going on if you are seeing high usage of Home & Lock Screen though at this point, without seeing the apps consuming the battery.

The next update is currently in beta and being testing and as I said before, we are unable to comment on the issues that have been resolved relating to battery usage in that update. No release date has been set, but you may find improvement when it is officially released.

I updated to 26 on the day it came out on my 16 Pro Max, battery was dicey for a few days and then corrected itself, but 2 weeks later suddenly out of nowhere, the battery has completely tanked, this morning October 3rd 2025 I left the house with 51% at 6:30 am and ended up on 20% by 10:30 am with my screen on time being only 1hr 40mins?? The standby time has also worsened severely, I’m losing 20 a 25% battery overnight, for comparison back when I had the 13 Pro Max on iOS 15 that phone never dropped more than 5% which is honestly unacceptable. I have no idea what’s going on. Has anyone else experienced this? Where the battery corrected itself and then weeks later went downhill?

Your first 7 apps using the most battery capacity are all non-Apple apps. They account for almost 80% of your battery consumption. How is this Apple’s fault?

I get it that those are the apps you want to use and give enjoyment etc. But you need to be reporting the issue to the support teams for the apps causing your issues. I use none of those apps and I’m getting the best battery life I’ve ever had on an iPhone.

Sorry, you have an app issue, not an iOS issue.

Trust me, way more than 300 people are having issues with Meta apps. Facebook is really the only app doing better than in the past. Instagram and WhatsApp are really struggling right now. Just keep checking daily for updates. I’m a photographer and Instagram is a big deal for many photographers. But people are struggling because Zuckerberg doesn’t care. I get it.

Report your frustration to Apple and on Meta’s apps. Truthfully, they’re terrible towards their customers.

I am charging my iPhone 13 right now because it shutdown without warning on me. It was in low power mode at 47%, but instantly went from 47% to 10%… INSTANTLY! And I had already done all the things recommended to reduce battery drain. The problem is 100% software!

Do not try to gaslight us by saying it’s our fault and we need to be patient. ios 26 is bad on battery reading. Hopefully it improves in a few days, and hopefully there is an update, but the ios is messed up!

And so the saga continues. Used my phone this morning like I have done for the last two years. Read and replied to a few texts, read and replied to a few emails, made several phone calls, no web searches, no instagram, no news apps, no YouTube. I went from 100% at 6:00 am to 35% by noon. Before iOS 26 I would still be at or near 75% during the same time. As a repeat, battery health went from 100% pre-update to 80% post update. Jeff, if all of us are at fault and Apple has done nothing wrong, please explain the drop in battery health within minutes of updating to 26? Also, please explain why it takes 4 to 5% of my battery life just to do a restart on my phone.
