I have an old charger, MacBook Air M2's 30W, so I want to use it for my iPhone 17 Pro Max, and I want to understand what will happen if I use the old charger.

Any Apple USB power adaptor may be safely connected to any Apple USB-powered device.
The only uncertainty is how well a “smallish” adaptor will perform powering a “larger” load.
(e.g. A relatively power-hungry MacBook may draw everything a “smallish” adaptor can provide and STILL need to discharge it’s own internal battery)
if it output 5volts, it can never not be safe
unless your old 30watt charger output 48volt or the likes it is safe, and no it will not make the battery die faster.
Here is my charger, It looks like it doesn't output 48 volts or the likes, so can I use it for the iPhone 17 Pro Max?
