My iPad's virtual keyboard shows up even when connected to a Magic Keyboard on iPadOS 26

Since upgrading to IPadOS 26, the virtual keyboard always appears on my screen even though my Magic Keyboard is attached and I am using it for data input. I touch the virtual keyboard icon and it goes away and then appears again once I start typing on the Magic Keyboard.

Any idea why this is happening?
