Is there anyway to reduce the light shifts and flashes with the new ios26 update? Long story short- I can't visually track things when there's all this added motion and animation (consider the messaging app). Can I stop the flash that happens when the message sends or reduce the way messages come in while on a thread?
I've already reduced transparency and increased contrast. Any thoughts?

Try Settings, Accessibility, Motion.
Turn on Reduce Motion, and Dim Flashing Lights
I have not find a way how to solve this, but we need to ask Apple to go back to ios18 motion effects or have a settings option to do this.
The ios 26 is terrible with "hyperactive" dynamic motion effects
1) One issue is what you describe, the flashes and light
2) other issue is when you leave application, the display transient to main page creates hyperactive dynamic effects. In ios18 we had an effect of straight motion, the application window gradually changes its size with a straigth trajectory into its application icon. Now the trajectory is wavy into the icon with an "overshot" shaking the icon which makes me dizzy
3) simmilar and anoing dynamic effect is with any system setting switches. Instead of just moving position, the switch gets enlarged, shiny and then new position. This is annoing and making headache, not professional at all
