Remove ALL photos from an iPad I don't want photos on

OK. I am out of space on an old iPad I use for two or three purposes:

  1. Homekit Control
  2. Sonos Control

That's it. Period. Nothing Else. I don't want anything on it, except the items I need to control those two things.

Right now, I can't update it because I have no space. I've tried to clear up space, but I am unsuccessful so far. I've unsynced photos in iCloud, no additional space. I thought about going in and deleting things, on the iPad but that's scary and I'm looking at 53K photos to select one at a time?

Can somebody please point me to a process to drastically reduct the space on this almost single function iPad. Thanks.

Make sure you have turned off iCloud Photos if you were using that so deletions don't get synced to other devices that that are using it and are logged in to the same Apple account. Settings ➜ Apps ➜ Photos ➜ iCloud Photos.

Then open the Photos app, tap on "Select" at the top, and select one photo, and then drag your finger across the screen diagonally to select all photos hold your finger on the corner and the photos will scroll through getting selected. Do this until all photos are selected and have a blue check mark on them, and then you can tap on the trash can icon to delete them.

Once everything has been deleted, go to the Recently Deleted Album under Utilities in the Photos app, and repeat the process to delete them all.

Thanks so much.

This iPad is mounted on the wall. I would estimate this might take hours to slide select. There is no way to shift click or select all?

Unfortunately no. But the drag should be fairly quick though. Though with that amount of photos, it may still take some time.

Also, if you know about removing iMessages from this iPad it would help too.

Thanks.

Similar thing. Open the messages app, tap on the Edit option at the top, and drag your finger down the messages list to select them. Again if there's a ton of messages, it may take a while.

The other option, is to just erase the iPad entirely and set it up again without turning on iCloud Photos or setting up messages etc... But that would require setting up HomeKit and Sonos again. Which may be less tedious.
