AirPods Pro 3 battery status not showing on iPhone XS Max

Bringing the AirPod case with the lid open close to the phone and AirPods inside does not show the battery status view on iPhone Xs Max with iOs 18.7. Also when selecting the Airpods via the Bluetooth menu the battery status is not visible. Are these bugs? I have seen the same issue raised on this forum for an Iphone Xr also.

Is this a bug? It still works for my original airpods and airpods pro 2, so looks like a regression issue.

At 74% my battery was stilling doing fine. I did not notice any functionality issues. I was aware that Apple recommends to change the battery when it falls below 80%. Many years back I changed the battery of several iPhone 6 myself. The battery is not a thing that is off my radar screen. However, as I said, I did not notice any functionality problems at 74%. For that reason I had not replaced it yet.

Anyway, I took your warning and had my battery exchanged at an Apple Store. However, that did not solve the issue with the AirPods Pro 3.

Subsequently, I discussed this problem with the Apple Genius Bar representative. The person said that the AirPods Pro 3 problem is an iOS 18 issue. I hereby confirm what Smegly posted earlier.

I have the same problem.

On my iPad Pro running iPadOS 26 I have the AirPods Pro 3 Tab in the preferences. See picture below.

In contrast, on my iPhone XS running iOS 18.7 I don't have the AirPods Pro 3 tab in the preferences. See picture below.

And in the Bluetooth preferences for the AirPods Pro 3 I cannot see the battery status for the AirPods nor for the case. See picture below.

I do not have this problem with my AirPods Pro Version 1.

However, the AirPods Pro 3 are working fine playing music from my iPhone.

The battery capacity of my iPhone XS is now at 74%. It's the original battery. However, I don't think that the iPhone battery is the cause of the AirPods Pro 3 battery indicators not to show. I think that is unlikely.

Even with fully charged iPhone XS battery the AirPods Pro 3 battery indicators still don't show. Whereas the indicators show with the iPad Pro battery being at 5%. But the iPhone battery widget does show the status of the AirPods Pro 3 and the case. See pictures below.

Apple suggests replacing the battery at around 80% max capacity. So yours at 74% is unhealthy and will cause the iPhone to function improperly — regardless of being fully charged. Avoid iOS updates in that battery's weak, depleted state — because if the battery fully discharges whilst updating, the iPhone may be 'bricked'. Any original iPhone XS battery is way overdue for replacement:
