Facebook display and navigation issues on iPad mini

The first photo is the original appearance on Facebook, the sides of the page are missing. The second page is when the post is accessed, showing the full content.

Also, there is no return arrow to get back to the original screen.

this is not an issue on my “full size” iPad, just my wife’s iPad mini.

any ideas?
