IPadOS 26: Apple Pencil Gen 1 Disconnects from Apple IPad A16 after going to sleep

After the IPadOS 26 update, my apple pencil gen 1 won't stay connected to my ipad when it goes asleep. It stays paired to the iPad, but I have to re plug it in with the dongle and cable every time. It's very frustrating, and it slows down my work pace quite a bit. I have tried restarting, resetting my network settings, un-pairing and repairing, and fully charging my apple pencil. None of these solutions have worked so far. It wouldn't be as big of an issue if it was a USB-C pencil, but I need a dongle for this one, and the USB-C pencil doesn't have pressure sensitivity.
