Blacked Out Portrait Images in Photos

I have just uploaded around 4000 photos and videos to my Photos library and the ones I shot in Portrait are blacked out in the library. They are fine when opened in edit and once any changes are made they appear as normal. Obviously I would like to see the originals clear as I need to review before editing for projects etc. Any suggestions for a bulk fix would be appreciated.

I don't use Portrait mode, so I can't test this. But, rather than wait for someone who knows what they're doing, I'll offer a suggestion:

What happens if you select a picture, rotate it

and then un-rotate with option-rotate (or rotate 3 more times for all the way around?) If that's a fix, then select all, and do it to all of them at once.

Let me know if it works…
