How to Sync iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen with Macbook?

So I have been trying all day to sync my iPod to my macbook but nothing happens other than the iPod flashing orange. I restarted my Mac multiple times but it does not seem to be doing the trick. It won't appear in Music or Finder which is my concern whether I am still able to use it.
