My applications are taking 151 gb but when i go to inspect, all the apps are 5 gb respectively, please help im on a 2024 apple m4 mac mini

+1 Ignore the inaccurate eye candy storage bar.
In addition to Old Toad's advise, I use OmniDiskSweeper to double check on disk and category usage.
That graphical representation of what's on the boot drive is notoriously inaccurate. Rely on the Info pane for the various folders on the drive. It's far more accurate.
Applications are also stored in other locations as well. You can have applications in your Downloads folder and also on your Desktop that will be included in your Application size.
You need a minimum of 45 GB free space on your boot drive to install most of the updates. If you don't have that much free space you should get an external drive and move enough files to it to free up a minimum of 100 GB of free space. This will facilitate optimal system and application performance.
