Hi,

A MacBook crashing when connected to an iPhone's Personal Hotspot is often due to software glitches, network configuration issues, or outdated macOS versions. To resolve this, try updating macOS, restarting both devices, forgetting and re-adding the hotspot network on your MacBook, and ensuring Low Power Mode is off on the iPhone if you haven't tried them yet.

"MacBook crashes everytime when connected to hotspot of iPhone: Thanks.: Did all that. No change. Network carrier says they can’t do anything…"

Troubleshoot the Mac's WiFi:

A few thoughts to try...

I. Clear the Temporary Internet Files:

II. Restart your Router:

  1. Power: off the router
  2. Wait: 30 seconds
  3. Power: It back on

III. Boot in Safe Mode:

In Safe ModeLogin Items do not run at login, certain preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are then reset. So, once booted in to Safe Mode, wait 30 seconds, and then boot up normally, attempting another update install. For instructions, go here: How to Use safe Mode on your Mac - Apple Support

IV. Try a New Admin User:

What happens when you create a new administrator user, and log into it? Do you still get this error? If not, then it is likely an error with the current user. If so, then it is likely an error with your Mac.

V. Reset your SMC and your NVRAM:

(Applies to Intel-Basel Macs Only) Sometimes changes (i.e. Installations) are made to the system and then settings (i.e. Networking) become corrupted, technically. So, reset both on your Mac. So, reset the SMC and reset the NVRAM or PRAM. It might take three tries. to fix this. So, be certain you have the time to do so.

Start With This:

VI. Add Back the Network:

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: Wi-Fi
  3. Remove: the network
  4. Wait: 30 seconds
  5. Add: the network back

MacBook Crashing When Connected to Hotspot of iPhone:

Troubleshoot this on your iPhone:

A. Start here: If Personal Hotspot is not Working on your iPhone or iPad with Wi-Fi - Apple Support

B. Contact your Carrier:

The Hotspot is a feature specific to your Carrier. So, contact your carrier, seeing if they are aware of any issues.

C. Reset (iPhone) Netwrok Settings:

As a last resort, you can't try resetting your network settings. Note that this will rid of all settings and credentials. So, you'll have to add them all back. So, take a few screenshots of your credentials, so that you can have something to refer to afterwards.

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: General
  3. Tap: Transfer or Reset iPhone
  4. Tap: Reset
  5. Select: Reset Network Settings

Good computing Anke51 ! glad you got it resolved.

Never heard your issue before, but I have been tracking your experience here.

I run Hotspot 100% for internet on every major macOS upgrade and point update, at least since going back to macOS Catalina (2019) and never once had an issue or seen one similar report.

You are welcome. It may have been a bug fix —something Apple and others typically include in their updates. Issues are learned of when they get feedback from their customers. Being all is fixed, I’d say you’re all set. But, for the note, reporting this to Apple is always a great route to take.

How to Provide Feedback on this:

Do Your Part: Report this to AppleApple won't get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what issues exist, and what fixes to include in updates to come. These are just user-to-user forums. Apple barely reads these forums as it is on their own time and will. Apple will know nothing of this issue, if you do not provide them with your feedback.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - MacBook - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: on when you came across this issue, and how you have troubleshot it, thus far. Include the URL of this thread.
  4. Proceed from there as Necessary
