Unfortunately, you can’t downgrade an iPhone to iOS 18.5 once it’s been updated to iOS 26.

Apple only allows installing versions of iOS that are still being signed — and older versions like iOS 18.5 are no longer signed by Apple’s servers. That means even if you have an IPSW file, the installation will fail because the signature check won’t pass.

If iOS 26 feels unsatisfactory, the best thing you can do is:

  1. Submit feedback to Apple here: https://apple.com/feedback/ – this helps improve future releases.
  2. Check for upcoming updates under Settings › General › Software Update – Apple often fixes issues quickly with minor updates.
  3. Restore your iPhone via Finder or iTunes if you think something went wrong during the update. This can sometimes improve performance.

Once Apple stops signing iOS 26 and releases a new version (like iOS 26.1), you can only move forward, not back.

If you just want your phone to feel faster or more stable again, a clean restore from backup usually helps a lot!

My iPhone has been updated to iOS 26.0.1, it has been so hard for me to use at 64 years old. I want to go back to the old system. I can't use a lot of the features.

I guess because I'm so much younger, it must be easier for me. I'm 63.

The whole "I'm too old to learn this new stuff" doesn't get you very far here. At 63, I'm one of the younger long-term members. We have people here who are well into their eighties, some of whom like iOS 26 just fine. Are there some who don't? Sure. But they don't blame their age for not liking something.

Are there people of all ages who don't like learning new things? Also true. But once again, that's a mindset, not an age.

I've updated around 2 weeks ago and my battery still dies much faster than on iOS 18, I have iPhone 15 pro max. So it's not about "indexing" unfotrunately, it's about new glass animations which eats battery and heats your iPhone as crazy. There are lots of youtube videos with real tests which demonstrate this.

If your last update was 2 weeks ago, then you have missed iOS 26.0.1. Update to that one where some have noted improvements in battery performance. There is also iOS 26.1 that is currently in beta, but we cannot comment on any issues that have been resolved. Waiting for that one to be officially released may also be beneficial for you.

Youtube videos become quickly out of date and no longer relevant after updates have been released. With iOS 26.0.1, it was just released 3 days ago, so consider anything before that time useless.
