Why are my emails not syncing on iPhone 16 Plus after Gmail reset?

I got a new iPhone 16 Plus. My emails transferred fine and was working. I got locked out of my Gmail had to reset it and added it. Now, neither one of my emails are working. I have not received anything since yesterday. Fetch is on. It’s also asking me to set up an iCloud email account which I’ve never had before. Do I have to have this for my emails to sync or what do I need to do to get my emails to sync?
