How do I restore double tap to dismiss messages on Apple Watch?

When double tap came out, I used it all the time to dismiss a message on my watch. Something changed a few months ago and now it goes to the input box to reply. The reason why I am using double tap is because I don't have enough hands free to interact with the watch... now I am stuck with an input box? Seriously? I can't figure out how to put it back.

Apple Watch Double Tapping??? I am trying to get rid of having to double tap my screen to open an app or anything really on my Apple Watch series 8. There is also a grey box that hovers over everything before having to double tap it. I have turned off the voiceover option and done touch accommodations but nothing seems to be getting rid of that feature.
