How to restore shared keyboard and mouse functionality between iMac M1 and iMac M4?

The ability to share keyboard and mouse between my iMac M1 and iMac M4 both running Sequoia 15.3.2 has ceased. It was working but has now stopped. I have gone through all the usual resets and even reloaded Sequoia. Nothing has helped Both mouse and keyboard are Apple products connected by Bluetooth.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

The problem I had has been rectified with the help of Apple support. Exactly how neither of us are sure. The first thing is under settings-displays local devices must be showing. I have included a screenshot. Once both local devices are there, the mouse-keyboard feature can be set. The only way I had the displays come up was to have my iPad within range and unlock it. Then both iMacs were available. No, I don't know why or how, but it worked and still does. Good luck.

Hi,

I think you can't share mouse and keyboard with two iMacs at the same time, though you can share your mouse and keyboard when you are using your iMacs separately, just connects your mouse and keyboard to iMac with lighting and USB-C or USB-a cable at once, then pair the mouse and keyboard.
