SE 2022 synchronisation issues with Google Keep

Google Keep won't synchronise unless it is 'open'.

This is most noticeable when relying on the reminder feature of Keep; is it doesn't go off, after setting the reminder with a laptop.

If I repeat the above but open and shut Keep before the reminder is due it works.

Google calendar synchronises OK. Any ideas?

OK, I'm a little confused here.

Google Keep is a note taking service that runs in a web browser.

If the web browser (or its window) is closed, how exactly is it supposed to send you notifications?

The only way it would work would be for Google Keep to push an event to your Calendar (or some other app running locally on your. machine), but it doesn't do that (and would be a question for Google, not Apple, to answer).

I use Google Keep as a downloaded app. I believe it should work in the same way as Google Calendar, ie receive push updates so long as the host computer is switched on. This is how Keep behaves on an Android phone. I expect it should work the same way with iOS. I think there is something wrong with my setup on my iPhone but don't know where to look.
