transferring music from MacBook Catalina version 10.15.7 to iPod nano generation 6

I have the correct cord that connects the iPod to the computer but when I open finder to sync music, no music comes up - please help I feel like I am losing my mind. when I hit sync, which I have done so so many times, nothing happens, my iPod library is still empty.

Sync with Finder will not transfer music to iPod nano I have a Mac with Monterey and a number of iPod Nanos. In the past I have used iTunes to sync music from my iTunes library. All the music on my iTunes library has been uploaded from CD - not purchased online. I have tried using Apple Music - but I am not prepared to subscribe - so that appears to disable the ability to Sync, and will not add any music to a playlist. I have tried using the 'Sync with Finder' - which can see all the albums in my library but will not transfer/sync to my iPod, although it has deleted music. There are no error messages. Anyone got any ideas as the iPod are excellent bits is kit.

Can I sync an iPod Nano 7th Gen with Apple Music on a MacBook Air OS Monterey? My humble iPod shows up in the sidebar of the Apple Music app on my MacBook air, but when I click Sync Settings and choose either Entire Music Library or Selected Music, Albums, (etc), a diagonal striped progress bar at the bottom of the page moves to the right but never results in being able to click the Sync button on the bottom of the page to sync the iPod with my music library. Oh, and the iPod in the sidebar has a black circle next to it, not the little eject icon. Thanks.
