Recording MS Teams meeting, downloading and editing in FCP?

I am planning to record educative meetings with specialists on MS Teams, then edit those as projects in FCP.

While the recording process on MS Teams seems straightforward, the process for downloading it in a usable format that can be imported and then edited in FCP is a big question mark for me.

The record button does not even exist in Teams on macOS !

This is the most obscure question I have ever seen. Indeed, the few answers (including on MS websites and forums) provide the same path as in Windows. But searching posts or videos on the topic leaves this question unanswered ... or answered timidly or partly.

Some answers suggest to do it through Quick Time, but my trials were very unsatisfactory. I purchased a third party app called TapRecord, but it is not the most user friendly app.

I've seen videos suggesting there might be two instances of MS Teams (new and classic) installed, but this is not my case, PLUS I can't even find that ''New MS Teams'' app for a mac.

I may perhaps try with Zoom...

What are the downloading/export options for the recording in MS Teams?

If standard video formats are available as an option, there should be no problem editing them in FCP.

A brief goggle search seems to indicate the file format will be MP4 which should work without issue in FCP.

Test and see.

I have never used MS Teams, but looking around on google it appears that if you are the "meeting organizer", there is an option so that you can record the meeting on the MS Teams cloud server - and then download that recording after the meeting for your own purposes.

How to record an MS Teams meeting?

If you are not the "meeting organizer" than you would record the meeting via a screen recorder locally on your computer.

After struggling with all answers found here and there - EXCEPT THE INFORMATION I WILL PROVIDE HERE to help many others with the same question, apparently what MS don't tell you unless you search ''if an upgrade is necessary'' in order to be able to record meetings in MS Teams on a mac, and as many (likely like myself) have a family subscription to Office 365:

Who can start or stop a recording?

Anyone who meets the following criteria can start or stop a recording if the meeting organizer has their cloud recording policy setting turned on:

  • Has one of the following licenses: Office 365 Enterprise E1, E3, E5, F3, A1, A3, A5, M365 Business, Business Premium, or Business Essentials.
  • Has recording enabled by an IT admin.
  • Isn't a guest or from another organization.

This likely explains why I (like many others complain) do not have a ''START RECORDING'' button!

Hopefully this helps others avoiding the days of frustrations we went through.
