Bose Sounddock not working with old ipod

I decided to try my old iPod after many years on the old Bose sound dock. Initially was getting a clicking noise when I put on the sound dock but I read that this was likely because I had plugged the cable incorrectly into the back.

I have now plugged in with DC Power showing up - which removed the clicking noise but still no power. iPod also not charging like it used to when connected.

I have tried pushing the + - buttons but neither did anything.

Can anyone help.

the iPod was bought around 2008 and the Bose around 2010.
