I have tried all of your ideas about getting rid of emails in trash folders. I have done it with Wi-Fi on and off. Have gone out to iCloud and they don’t appear. I have also deleted ALL emails in every folder. The messages still won’t go away. Would appreciate any more suggestions

I am guessing about the message you see when you try to delete, but it means that the message was already deleted from the mail server, and when the phone tries to delete it from the server it isn’t there.
Is this an iCloud email address, or a 3rd party? If it is 3rd party go to Settings/Apps/Mail/Accounts, tap on the account and delete it, then add it back. If it is an @iCloud account then turn off Use on this iPhone, then turn it back on.
I have the same problem with both email accounts. Deleted emails go back as far as 2021. One update that I did cleared the deleted emails but when I did the next upgrade it put them back out there and they have been back for about the last 10 updates. I have turned off emails and turned them back on and nothing seems to work
Don’t feel comfortable about turning off Google Gmail. All of my contacts and calendars are included in that account.
Well, if it is gmail it isn’t in Apple trash folders, it is in gmail trash folders. But if you turn off gmail on your phone that won’t affect gmail on any other devices, or at gmail.com.
