Chrome freezes frequently. When it freezes the whole iMac freezes. This happens frequently. It began occurring after installing Sequoia. At first I assumed Sequoia was the culprit. So, I did a clean install of Sonoma. Same issue occurs.
Testing with Safari and the freezing doesn't occur.
Bad Google.
Does anyone have a solution to this or are we stuck at Google's mercy on this?

You must have a 2019 or newer iMac or you wouldn't be able to run Sonoma.
Google Chrome is a known system resource hog and, IMO, should be avoided at all costs. If you don't like Safari try Firefox or Brave (Chrome without Google). Both are more secure than Chrome.
Google Chrome uses a lot more of the computers resources than Safari or Firefox.
If Safari or Firefox are working OK for you, then it maybe time to give Google Chrome the boot.
Also keep in mind that things will slow down, if you are running multiple Browsers and other App's at the same time.
It's occurring only for your Mac and freezing indicates a hardware issue. How would you like to proceed? The easy way to eliminate/isolate hardware is to reset your Mac to factory. The fun way is to blame Google and have this discussion drift into nothing. I'm game for both :)
Are you using the same Extensions in Chrome as in the other browsers?
If you open the Activity Monitor.app, what does the Memory Pressure indicator look like before, and while running Chrome?
It's hard to defend Chrome, but it should certainly not cause actual system instability unless it's actually using all of your RAM.
Other options to try Microsoft Edge (more annoying features every day) or Brave which are both mainstream browsers that are well-supported and use the same rendering engine as Chrome.
Looks like your iMac is aging - reset to factory might help. Good luck!
This doesn't explain why the issue is only occurring while using the Google Chrome app.
Tried the same websites and task in Firefox and Safari without issue.
