How do I Block the news widget from showing articles.

So I have an OCD problem with doomscrolling and I wished MacOS would let us delete the news app but unfortunately that's not possible. I do like how you can edit on windows and stop the news on their end but I wanted to ask if it was possible to block off all traffic to Apple News using the host file. If there is a way to block off Apple News app from functioning it would be perfect.

I remember back on Windows I would go to host and just add a website and it cuts it off completely. I wanted to see if there was a way to kill this off for me I do have apps that block access to me opening the app but I prefer not having the articles show up on my end.

I'm not understanding why this is happening... can't you just remove the widget from your desktop? The only widgets I have are the ones I put on the desktop myself. The only time I see the articles is if and when I am subscribed to Apple News and place the widget there. When I am not subscribed (sometimes I drop the subscription for a few months), I simply delete the widget.

I would love to have your gift card, but you can keep it for some other good use ... I subscribe to Apple News+ and never see headlines unless I click on proactively something (like the Apple News app, or a feed). I don't use an Apple News widget. Also, you can turn off Notifications from Apple News in your Settings.
