Unable to add my Credit card to Apple Pay

I’ve tried EVERYTHING and I still can’t add my credit card to Apple Pay 😕

when I try to add my Barclays credit card it just says card not added.

  • I can add it to my partners iPhone 15, but can’t add to my 16.

  • Barclays the bank has done all they can, ensuring restrictions are removed, allowing tokens and so forth.

  • I’ve followed all advice on the forums. Reinstalled wallet, reset network settings, I’ve tried add it manually with number, manually in settings, I’ve checked for updates and followed everything possible I could find in the forums.

  • Apple support couldn’t even work it out. They told me to speak to Visa.

does anyone have any suggestions?

thank you!

Thanks Jeff! If i'm honest, nothing I hadn't tried already including:

  • Resetting network settings
  • Removing the wallet app and re-adding
  • Try adding the card manually in the wallet app and in the Apple pay settings
  • They also got me to add a payment method to my Apple account (to which the card was added successfully)
  • Check VPN's and Profiles are disconnected or removed. I removed my work profile as a result.

In the end they told me to contact Visa. To reiterate, its a local issue. I'm able to add the card with no issue to my partners wallet on her apple pay. I am also able to add other cards to my apple pay so I'm a little stumped by the whole thing.

The last resort, which I wanted to avoid, is to completely wipe my phone.

Did you remove all the VPN profiles and all the VPN software? I know users don’t like to remove everything and prefer to just turn off VPN. There are plenty of posts that go both ways. Some get Apple Pay to work by just disabling the VPN. However, others have to literally remove all traces. In any case the network settings need to be reset. There are posts on other social media platforms on how WiFi calling is an issue.

The fact you can add it to other user’s devices is irrelevant. I don’t know how in depth you want to go with understanding Apple Pay, but if Apple said it was VISA, then it’s almost certainly a Payment Network Operator (Visa, MasterCard, American Express etc.) issue. But they won’t respond to consumers. You’ll need to have the issuing bank open a support ticket with Visa on the issue.

If you want to learn about what’s going on, I’m happy to explain.

Thanks for your time and guidance Jeff!

I took your advice and removed Nord VPN and also removed my company profile again which has its own corporate vpn settings.

I then reset my network settings and restarted. Unfortunately still a no go, either adding through the Barclays app and adding manually through wallet and settings.

I did lodge this again with Barclays who are expected to call me back in the next couple of days. Until then I guess I’ll need to do it the old fashioned way.
