"Four Corners" title: text corrupt

Hi. I have a few FCP projects that use the "Four Corners" title from the FCP titles library. I just opened these projects and found that the text is displaying random letters instead of what is in the text window of the editor. Also, the letters are overlapping and spaced randomly. I tried retyping the proper text and putting a new instance of the title into the timeline, but it always does the same thing. I then updated to OSX Sequoia and FCP 11, but that didn't fix it either. I checked all the other titles in the library, but it is only the "Four Corners" one that is corrupted. Anyone else? Any ideas?

Have you added or removed any fonts from within the FCP app itself?

The default font for Four Corners is Coolvetica — it is pre-installed in both Final Cut Pro and Motion — it does not come with Mac OS. If it is not showing in the thumbnail preview or when you add it to the storyline and you uninstalled it, your OS is performing a "Font Substitution" which can lead to strange behaviors (like the one you're experiencing) in some cases.

If you haven't uninstalled it, I know for a fact that Coolvetica does not validate... It never has:

That said, the problems with the 'htmx' table usability property have never affected usage in Mac OS before. This may have changed in newer versions of the OS.

It had worked fine last time I opened these projects or used that title. I did not do any updates or change anything between those sessions, so I don't know what could have caused it to start malfunctioning. Clicking the font family in the settings for the title corrects it in the project, but it's still messed up in the thumbnail and preview.

After discovering the problem, I upgraded to OSX Sequoia and FCP 11. The problem still exists. When I click the font family drop-down selector for an instance of this title in a project timeline, and select the same font that it was (Helvetica, which is the default) it fixes it in the timeline. But the thumbnail in the titles library and it's preview remain corrupted.

fox_m, you're right, I did not remember the default font for the Four Corners title is Coolvetica. I just went back into the four projects that use this title and changed them to Coolvetica. The font was available, and it still works. But I'm still left with the thumbnail and preview of the title in the title library malfunctioning.

Since the original Title template exists **inside** FCP, that may indicate some kind of corruption to your app.

You might want to reinstall FCP. Put the original in the Trash (but don't empty the trash yet...), then install from the app store. I recommend that you wait for somebody to confirm this advice before going through with it — this is not something I have any experience with...
