Hearing test returns to main screen just before test starts.

Have iPad rev 18.1 trying to get iPod 2 to function as a hearing aid assist. iPad does recognize the iPod devices and the sound is clear at the beginning of the test but when told to touch the screen when the test starts, the screen quickly returns to the Home Screen. I waited some time but the hearing test screen never reappears.
