Mail practically unusable after 18.2 - is it possible to revert update?

The iOS 18.2 update has now caused me to miss several important emails. The extra steps needed to find messages is a disaster. I have used Apple Mail for many years but for the first time I am now looking for an alternative.

Is it possible to configure Apple Mail to not use the categories introduced in 18.2 or alternatively to roll back the update so that I can have a usable mail app again.

EDITED to ADD

Thanks to Macrumors I have found that you can indeed turn off the Category view by tapping on the three dots in top right and selecting List View. It is a bit of a nuisance as doing it in All mail does not apply to all accounts and you have to apply the change individually to all accounts in your app.

A thought for Apple to ponder - just because you can do something, does not mean you should!

The display of emails is awful. I do not want the app deciding which messages to display. I want my unread messages displayed in my inbox by date along with new message. Apple has taken a simple application that's worked just fine and made it a nightmare. I've missed several bill payments because apple thinks it knows a better way to display my mail. How can I restore the old settings.

The new iOS downloaded last night! It’s dreadful!! A complete pain effectively searching for mail that has arrived!! Why change something that doesn’t need changing? As others have said, I want to sort my own mail and not be told what is important or relevant. Now going to see if there is a way of reverting!!!

Mail is horrible now so tired of Apple messing up stuff that works because they are running out of ideas. Now in Mail I am missing important mail. The mail no longer show you have new mail I hate it they need to really fix this problem immediately.

Its awful. Even in “list view” the icons take so much space that you cannot easily peruse your mail. Too time consuming. I dont even bother looking at email on my phone anymore. Might as well delete the app and go through icloud on the browser.

Why don’t you disable the icons, as explained many time in this thread?

I am losing a lot of emails since the update to 18.3.1 it would have been nice to have been asked if I wanted this. I have found that emails can be located in certain headings but when I select all mail or revert to list view a lot of emails are lost. I want ALL my emails in one. I don’t want to have to look through every group to find an old email. Apple would have been better designing a proper anti spam function so you can highlight a junk email so you never get it again and leaving the rest alone.

I have reverted back to the original list view and as you mentioned elsewhere it has to be done for each individual email account if you have more than one. However, not explained is the missing emails before and after reverting back. I also have outlook express and that’s how I found they were missing or why apple automatically inflicted this on everyone rather than maintaining the default and giving the option to change the email if wanted after others had done the B testing.

No return, no. Not at all. After using categories and looking at the All Mail section where 150 mails were found, I disabled the categories and was left with the same 150 mails in my inbox. The point is that before experimenting categories I had left only 9 messages in my inbox after archiving a lot of them manually. Now it seem everything is back... Thank you Apple. This is on top of a macOS becoming more buggy at every update.

You just added to a 7 page thread where how to revert to the way Mail worked in the previous version has been posted around 100 times. Sometimes it pays to read a thread before adding to it.
