I recently updated my iPhone to iOS 18. Everything seems to be fine except for one annoying thing. The "Hide Alerts" option in Message no longer functions. I keep getting alerts and notifications from the groups that I have silenced. Is this a bug?

SOLUTION (for me)
For the chat it was happening in (RCP texting with three iOS phones and one Android) I was suddenly getting Haptic notifications despite having the chat muted. I tried several things, including turning on and off the Hide setting on the chat and the individuals. This sometimes worked for a bit.
What solved it for me was going into each individual contact (I went through the "5 people" menu at the top of the chat record), selecting "Edit" and setting each person's Text Tone sound and Haptic vibration to "none."
That makes some intuitive sense but should obviously (as in the past) not override the selection you make for the chat as a whole. It also might create problems if you want to mute the chat but not the individuals, but hey.
That was one of the first troubleshooting steps I tried. It helped for about two messages, then alerts stated again. Since the latest update alerts for my problem group happen at random, so I’ll try reset all settings again. 🤞
So I guess we’re stuck with this garbage happening nonstop? Really dislike waking my wife and kid up at all hours of the night since I have friends that work overnight. I noticed last night the ringtone volume was high even when I set it to the lowest setting before vibrate only
I honestly don't think Apple is going to solve this issue. I called support twice and the person on the line said that the engineers have several so-called workarounds for it which means that they have been aware of the problem for a long time. Clearly it is not a priority.
Happening to me too. One particular group with one iPhone and one android user. tried all the usual suggestions… close all apps, restart, toggle hide alerts, etc
I was finally able to silence one of my very active groups. And it just started alerting again. This is annoying.
It has been working for me for a couple of days. I'll send another update if I start getting alerts again.
Another update. My alerts are still hidden on my phone, but today they are now showing up on CarPlay. What a weird bug.
Is the Reset All Settings a sure fix of this issue? I don’t want to have to go through the trouble for the problem to return.
Would also love to know if doing that works. It's been a nuisance since IOS 18. We're now on 18.3 and it's still doing it.
I really need this bug resolved! I work nights and my family messages during the day, while I’m sleeping! I cannot have my phone on silent for the rest of my life.
I just updated my iphone 14 to the 18.3.1 and now I am getting alerts in group chats I have set to hidden. Any other resolutions besides Reset All Settings?
Hide alerts slider is on, AND left swipe bell icon has a strikethrough. Still get all text alerts: sounds, banners, etc. Complete lack of effect.
Same. Was working fine until latest update. Annoying since my family group chat is a constant deluge of messages and reactions...manageable when muted, now just constant alerts.
