How to select all emails in the iOS 18.2 Mail app?

I can't see any good way to select all emails in the iOS 18.2 Mail app. I think you can do it by scrolling down with two fingers, but that's a pain when you have hundreds of emails. In the older versions of Mail I would normally Select All then Mark as Read which made it easy to see where I left off the last time.

Am I missing something?

TIA

It is there , but the control has changed . At your mail box , on the top across you can see Primary plus three other icons( transactions , updates & promotions ) . Scroll to the left and it will reveal one more after the last icon which is All Mail . Tap on All Mail , then tap Select . The Select All will appear on the left upper . Click Select all and all will be selected .

Thanks, but I think there is still an issue. When you “select all”, if there are any already-opened and read emails in your box, the option it gives you for all of them is to “Mark as Unread” whereas it used to be completely the other way around. If you had any unread emails the default option was always to “Mark as Read” to easily clear your whole inbox. Maybe they will update this too?

Yes, the "Select All" option will indeed appear in the new Mail app in iOS 18.1 and 18.2. However, there's a small detail to keep in mind that might affect you if you use multiple email addresses simultaneously. To access the "Select All" feature, you must first navigate back and select a specific email address before opening the "All Mail" section. The Mail app will not mark all emails as read if multiple mailboxes are selected. This limitation is important to note for efficient email management.

People are offering solutions to delete every email in the inbox by using ‘All Mail’ ‘Select All’, etc…

How do I select all emails from a search result so I can delete them?

E.g. I want to search all emails from Uber Eats, select all and delete them.

Theres no option to select all search results? That can’t be right.

  1. In order for the ”Select All” option to appear you must have “Mail Categories” turned on, click on the three dots at the top right and click on the “Categories“ option.
  2. Once that’s done make sure you are currently viewing the ”Primary” category.

3. Once you are here, Swipe “Left” and it will move you to a hidden category called “All Mail”4. Now click on the ”Select“ button at the top right of your screen. 5. Once done now you should see the “Select All” on the top left of your screen.

For some odd reason, they have the select all option instantly pop up when you hit Select when deleting Junk and Trashed Mail, no idea why they have it setup so complicated. Hopefully this helps.

Heres a future reference for those who haven’t figured it out,

If you have the mail categories turned on, go all the way to the category on the right, to the All Mail "category"(which can be done by swiping right) . Then "Select All" will show up in the top-left when you choose "Select". If you are within Primary or any of the other categories, there is no Select All button.

Well....this should work in theory. I'm on IOS 18.3.1 and when I select all then tap 'Move'. The mail app crashes, even after a fresh restart. This was kind of the last straw with the Apple Mail app for me. Moving over to the GMAIL app, which makes more sense since 90% of my emails are there and the others I keep in the Outlook app.
