Itunes doesn't recognize my 7th gen ipod all of a sudden

I am aware that Apple does not support Ipods anymore. I am old school and don't want music on my phone. It worked a few months ago. My computer recognizes the device Apple Mobile device recognizes the device. I have tried a different cable. Restarted everything. Re-synced, latest IOS on Ipod (which maybe older than Itunes?) Updated latest Itunes. There has to be some glitch that I could work around just to get maybe another few months out of it. I had read that un installing Itunes and re installing it worked for some users. I haven't done that yet. Maybe this is Apples way to force me to buy a music subscription which I don't want to do. I wish I was a computer programmer! Any ideas?
