Unable to change/remove Apple ID Notification Email

Discovered no longer used "Notification Email" on Apple Account, but unable to change or delete. 2 chats and 2 calls to Apple Support without success. Updating to latest macOS helped, but still kept hanging up on final step requiring "Continue on one of your devices." Surprisingly, logging into Apple Account via Google Chrome (instead of Safari), which forced using Apple ID and password, versus Apple ID and fingerprint log-in ... did the trick & poof ... old email easily deleted. Thank you Google search!
