Apple keyboard up/down arrow keys moving sideways in emoji keyboard

I just did the most recent update to my iOS system and now when I access the emoji keyboard using the globe on my Apple Keyboard, the up/down arrows only move back/forth. This is incredibly frustrating as I use them to scroll through lines of emojis and now I have to tap 7 times just to move down one line. Is there a setting somewhere that I messed up? Help!
