Thanks, that helps and I understand what you're seeking. No, for a Mac to be connected to the Internet requires an infrastructure network. Its only built-in capabilities are wireless (Wi-Fi) and Ethernet, and some low end Macs don't even have the latter.
You can of course connect to any cell phone's wireless "hotspot" but that's a function of the phone and its cellular data service.
There may be wireless dongles that provide cellular service, perhaps satellite Internet, but I don't have any particular recommendations for you.
