Old iMac (High Sierra) and Photos v3 can't edit photos from iPhone 16

I have an iPhone 16 Pro Max. And an old iMac, running Photos v3 and High Sierra MacOS. When I try to edit photos taken on my iPhone with Photos running my iMac, I can't. If I click on the crop button, nothing happens. If I click on the Done button (ie done editing), nothing happens. I'm not taken back to the library.
