Although I have used a Gmail account for my contacts in the past, I have now decided to use only my iCloud Contacts. Until I feel comfortable that there are no syncing issues or other glitches, I would like to simply hide my Gmail list in Contacts. On my Macs, I simply went to System Settings>Internet Accounts>Gmail & disabled my Gmail contact list without deleting it. How can I do the same thing on my iPhone? Thank you so much.

I did a search & it appears that Gmail contacts will only remain in my Google account for 30 days if I delete them from my iPhone. After that they will be permanently deleted. I don't know if that is true.

I have no idea where you're seeing that information. Or what the context is. Can you post a link?
You don't need to even own an iPhone to have contacts in a Google account. In fact, you don't need to own any type of computer or phone at all (okay, 2FA might require something). You can log into your Google account from any computer. You can log in at the computer in a public library. Or at your grandmother's house. Or your work computer.
Go to Settings>Apps>Mail>Mail Accounts>Gmail and turn off the "Contacts" toggle.
Thank you for the response. But if I turn off the Gmail Contacts slider, it prompts me to delete the account (not hide it).
The contacts are stored online in your Google account. They will be deleted from your phone but, if you turn the slider back on, they will repopulate.
