Voice dictation unreliable on iPhone 16 Pro Max

Been doing that since purchasing the same phone several months ago, it works for a few hours then stops and the phone has to be restarted again. 18.4 did not fix it for me. Let us know in a few days if it still works for you.

My Iphone 16 pro is ONE WEEK OLD and it periodically and randomly stops responding to my voice texting. The microphone appears to be lit up, accepting voice but nothing gets typed out. This keeps happening. The only fix is to turn my phone off and back on. MY OLD 11pro didn't do this!!! I only got a new phone because my memory was running out. Perhaps I should have just deleted stuff because this is annoying.

Same problem. Dictation and Siri are not responding to verbal commands. I have to power down and back up and then it might work 2-3 times and then it stops again. My device is Iphone 16 Pro Max running iOS 18.4.1

Same issue on my new iPhone 16 Pro - dictation works for a while but then stops dictating (it seems to want to listen), the only fix I know works is to restart my phone. Hope they provide a fix soon.

Same problem, which really could be a safety concern in a pinch! Dictation and Siri just stops responding I cannot find a correlation as to why. The only fix is to power off and start up again, which is a pain because I used to use them both constantly. What the heck Apple, a huge inconvenience and potential safety issue. Is there a fix? PS I always do your updates immediately!

I'm having the exact same issue with my iPhone 16 Pro. I'm really frustrated because I had an iPhone 13 which I liked, but the screen cracked so I upgraded. I was excited for a better camera but honestly I haven't been impressed with the 16 Pro. Especially with something so basic like the voice-to-text. It's frustrating and disappointing.

so many of us have posted our frustration with this phone. And I will add, not speaking for you or anybody else: my disgust with Apple for just giving up on fixing the problem and telling us lame advice that we have already tried: re-boot make sure we are current with the iOS, etc. How about some corporate responsibility?!

I just got my 16 pro max about 6 hours ago and I don’t even have a microphone ICO!!! I rely heavily on voice text and this is already making my life MUSERABLE!!!! I need to contact my salesperson at the Verizon store first thing in the morning!!

Same issue. I have to restart my iPhone 16 Pro all the time to make the talk to text work, however it stops again suddenly and then I have to restart phone again. All settings are correct for microphone sharing.

I just got my new iPhone 16 pro and it is a mess. But the worse part is the talk to text just stops working. I reset my phone at least once a day. And WHY?!?! This is obviously an issue. Why has Apple not fixed this yet? I'm now past my window to return and am STUCK with this junk.

but yesterday it started working again. I hadn’t rebooted or done anything to fix it. I thought Apple must have done a hidden fix ( I have manual updates set but I believe they can do an auto fix )

anyway, if others are still having problems then some action on my phone must have enabled it

Where do they want such a video recording to be submitted? I'm not sure how to screen record, but I can take a separate phone and record this annoying feature. I had an 11pro and it never did this. I wish I still had it.

The senior level tech I was working with sent me a link I would use to upload it. It's not something for the general public. They use it to show the engineers, as it's a known issue. But so far it's not happening anymore. We'll see. But they requested it from another device, not screen record!

Mine is doing the same thing. I’m shocked they have no record of this. I will start voice texting and look down and nothing happened. Then if I press the microphone again and say the first word and wait a second THEN it will start. Other times it won’t ding when I press the microphone. Other times my Siri won’t acknowledge “hey siri” by voice command. Something is obviously wrong here. I’ve tried everything Turing dictation on and off, rebooting. Nothing fixed it and it’s MADDENING. So frustrating when you’ve been voice texting for almost 20 seconds and looked down and nothing has recorded. The worst!

I have the same problem. Voice text stops working randomly, Siri doesn’t listen. The voice button doesn’t pick up anything. I always have to just restart it. It’s a daily issue.
