MacBook Pro MacOS High Sierra & Hotmail 2024 not linking to MacBook Pro Mail

I have not been able to send/receive mails on my MacBook Pro since Microsoft's new authentication process was introduced in September 2024.

I would like to be able to do this again.

I have a MacBook Pro 13",2017, using MacOS High Sierra Version 10.13.6

My mail is "@live.com which I understand is "hotmail" account still supported by Microsoft.

I have been receiving mail on my "hotmail" account but it no longer appears on my MacBook Pro's mail.

I was told that this is due to the new authentication process that Microsoft has introduced.

In trying to remedy this I have :

Removed all my mail accounts on the Mac Mail

Cleared all my Safari and Chrome history.

Then tried to enter my hotmail account details anew :

-In the Mail app on the Mac I selected Mail - Accounts

-This lead to the Internet Accounts sets up your accounts..........

-I selected Microsoft Exchange, shown as an E with an X Exchange

-I was asked to input Name, Email Address, Password

-Having done so I received the message : "Unable to verify account name or password." In red.

I have also set up another account, as an Alias, in Microsoft Outlook, as suggested in one note,

but got the same resultwhen trying to set the Outlook account up in "Mail" on the MacBook Pro.

IE "Unable to verify account name or password." In red.

I have reset my email password to make sure that it wasn't an error on my part.

I am at a loss as to what to try next........anyone got any ideas ?

After about 9 hours looking through advice on this forum I came to the conclusion that High Sierra was not supported. This meant that any changes to programmes that could be used by Apple Software would not

result in High Sierra being updated to accommodate.

Consequently, after backing up my mac, I loaded the latest version of MacOS that I could.

That was macOS 13 Ventura, October 25, 2022...my mac would not allow me to load the 2023 and 2024 releases of macOS. This took about 3 hours and apart from getting used to Ventura it doesn't appear to have had any adverse side effects.

This seemed to allow the link to hotmail and my hotmail is now being reflected in the mail app on my machine.

However, one of the apps (Amazing Slow Downer) I had bought previously (2013) did not work with macOS 13 Ventura and I had to buy the current copy.

Also whereas I used to move an email from a folder to the inbox, eg tickets I had bought some months ago and filed,

and this used to be reflected on my synced iphone, this no longer happens.

Finding a solution or work-around is next on my list of to do's.

Other than that, I have yet to find any other problems/challenges.
