Apple valued my both my old devices as 0$ when i tried trading in

i wanted to upgrqde both my parents devices to Iphone 16promax and an iphone 16. They currently have a 14promax and a iphone 14. I walked into my local apple store and they valued both my of the devices for 0$???

i asked why and the person helping me didnt know why it gave him 0$, he called his manager and the manager said “it’s because apple values repaired devices as 0$”

Is that it? Are my phones worthless? I remember trading 2 years ago my parents 12promax/12 and they both had repairs done to them (one battery and one screen) and i didnt have a problem.
