comcast not supporting Apple Mail

My husband's Mail program stopped working. We could not send emails on his MAC. So I contacted Comcast, & tried to delete & re-add the email address. After several tries, Comcast informed me they do not support "third party" software & suggested I re-load the MAC email onto my device. WTF?? I have the same email working on my MAC, and both of our iPhones. I tried following the advice offered here on the community with bad results. Somehow, even though it is not listed, every time I try to add "new account" I get red letters telling me this account already exists on his MAC. I am at an impasse. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

OK. I called Apple Customer support. Had to delete the iCloud email, go to Comcast and check the settings. The guy from Apple helped me to fix the settings on Comcast. Then, I was able to re-add the email to Apple Mail program. I do not know why Comcast customer service could not figure this out & just told me a cop-out "we don't support third party" baloney.

Thanks for the update. I have Comcast as well for internet, TV, and Phone and it is fine until there is a problem. Their customer service is the worst. Glad Apple was able to help you with it. It appears they just wanted to get you off the phone by telling you third party apps are not supported and will usually just blame someone else for any problem you are having. They do have a switch on their website under Security that must be on to allow Third Party Access, so yes what they told you was baloney.
