Unpair your AirPods:

You AirPods will be seen, as long as they are paired with he iPhone. When it comes to Find My, note that AirPods are not assigned their own IP Address, and as a result, the location that you see is that of the device these are paired to.

How to Unpair:

1. Go Here: Unpair, restart, or reset your AirPods - Apple Support
2. As it Reads: "iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings, tap the name of your AirPods near the top of the screen, then tap Forget This Device. This removes the AirPods from all the devices where you’re signed in to the same Apple Account."

A. AirPods being Seen:

Q1. "I don‘t want to unpair them because I use them occasionally. I only mentioned it as proof that they are turned on although they haven‘t been used for a while. They are not supposed to be seen in the batteries widget when not used or the lid of the case is being opened."

A1. They are not going to be activated, unless they are of the Same Serial Number, and are laying in each of your ears. So, have no worries on privacy for this matter --the microphone, nor the spear will work.

Find My:

A2. As for bringing up Find My, you are mentioning about being "uncomfortable" about these being seen. Find My will see these no matter where you are with your iPhone, even if the AirPods are not in your hands.
