Use my iPad as the screen for my broken MacBook screen

My MacBook display is broken (dropped...) but everything else is fine. I don't want to buy an external monitor and keyboard and have seen Apple instructions for using Sidecar to use my iPad as a screen. HOWEVER the instructions require the MacBook screen to be functional to set up Sidecar. Any way to set this up to use my iPad as my screen when I don't have access to the laptop screen? Thanks.

iPad, iPadOS 17

Sorry, no, to my knowledge there isn't. Setting up Sidecar requires configuration on your Mac. Perhaps you can borrow a monitor long enough to get your Mac properly set up and mirroring to your iPad (Command-F1 should trigger mirroring to the external display and not require an external keyboard and mouse . Note, though, that it's likely that every time you take the iPad elsewhere to use it separately, you're likely to have to reset your Mac which again would require a working display. So getting an external display is probably going to be your most satisfactory option.

Regards.
