Can't display VPN status in menu bar (Option missing in Settings)

Hi. I have two Macbook Pros. The M2 Pro 16" works great. I can choose to show the VPN status in the menu bar. The 2019 16" just does not have this option available in the Settings app. How can I solve this? I already did everything that the official documentation says....
