Display resolution incorrect after waking from sleep on MacBook Pro M3 Pro - Sonoma 14.4
There are two monitors connected to a MacBook Pro M3 with Sonoma 14.4, one is a Apple Cinema Display - thunderbolt variant, and the other a ASUS. Neither monitor is defective or damaged in any way. Cables are also 100% and these monitors were tested on another computer, non Apple to verify.
The Asus is connected via HDMI to the macbook, the Cinema display is connected via mini-dvi to usb-c to the macbook.
When initially booting, and logging in, the login screen will be the correct resolution on the Cinema display
When initially booting, and logging in, the login screen may be on the ASUS monitor instead of the Cinema display.
When waking up from sleep ( with correct resolution on both monitors ) only the Cinema display will be set to 1280 x 720 ( very pixelated )
Rebooting can occasionally get this behavior to go away, other times not. When this happens, resorting to unplugging and re-plugging the cinema display monitor into the macbook will work, sometimes not and you are forced to just go about your day with only one monitor.
This can also happen with the Asus monitor as well, requiring unplugging and re-plugging in of the hdmi port.
Before this Macbook pro M3 pro there was a M1 that was in use with the same monitors, which did the exact same thing ( though a Hyper usb adapter was needed as the M1 couldn't drive two monitors at the same time natively....)
Ultimately I would like to know why is this behavior occurring and continuing to happen across two different newly purchased Macbooks both M1 and M3 variants and how one can best work to stop it as it's becoming quite a workflow / productivity killer.
